NGRA Member Picks up FAW Trophy Cup Final 2017/18
NGRA member picks up one of the FAW national cup competition final. Gavin Townsend of Tredegar has been refereeing for 8 years progressing through the ranks well. Gavin who serves on the Welsh Premier League as 4th official and operating on the welsh League division 1 most weeks has scooped a great appointment as the man in the middle of the FAW Trophy Cup which will see two North Wales Sides Rhos Aelwyd Vs Conwy Borough on the 7th of April at ex-welsh premier ground Airbus.
When talking to Gavin he said "I am over the moon and looking forward to working with my fellow colleagues." on asking him what it takes to be appointed to a cup final at any level he said "hard work in training, reading up on the laws of the game regular, good administration, listening to those who offer advice as we can all learn something new to help better our performances and having the drive to want to be the best". Gavin who is now 33 years of age has aspirations to make it to the middle of the Welsh Premier and in picking up a national competition in Wales for senior men's football in Wales with the highest accolade for any referee in Wales on the national stage being the Welsh Cup Gavin must be going in the right direction. We wish Gavin & his team which sees Harry Hendricks & Andy Harms support as assistant referees and 4th official Dan Richardson the very best and hope the ball runs kindly for them all. |

The North Gwent Referees Association after successfully running its footy festival in July this year has secured a contract with Local Authority in Blaenau Gwent to support Free Football Fridays in the local are for young people to take part in.
The NGRA is now supporting Blaenau Gwent Youth Service by providing referees to support "A turn up and play footy fridays".
The project which is paid for by the Gwent Police Crime Commissioners Grant approached the NGRA to help support local football in the area. This also helped to provided young people with the opportunity to meet referees and offer an alternative route into sport should they wish to.
The NGRA Chair Clark Campbell said "we are always looking to help and support new referees and people to take up the whistle & this its a great opportunity for us to show case what we are about, but also to help put back into the local area and support young people into sport".
The NGRA who have 20+ strong membership has grown year on year and have referees at the very top of the Welsh Football Pyramid right down to Grass Roots. The NGRA recently had its first female take up the whistle last year and has had big successes on and off the pitch.
For further information on the Free Football Fridays, and should you think about becoming a referee then why not visit the North Gwent Referees website on the link below.

NGRA First female takes up semi cup final appointment
BREAKING NEWS NGRA First NGRA Female Referee Takes Up Appointment on Semi Cup Final.
Ffion Marshall from Rassau at the young tender age of 16 has just made history for the NGRA by becoming the first female referee to act as Assistant Referee on the North Gwent Sunday League Semi Cup Final. The game which was played in CWM on the 25th of January 2015 seen RTB Briery Hill take on Dynamo Mount Pleasant which was a real 2-1 thriller win for RTB Briery Hill who took all the bragging rights with a 92 min goal to progress to the final. Ffion who sat her Referees exam just before Christmas has now registered with the GCFA and become an active member of the NGRA. When speaking to Ffion she said "I have always had some involvement in football from playing with the boys for Cwm Under 8, 9s & 10s and later with the girls at Mardy Tigers. I was nervous on this game as it was a great game for me to be part of & it was very competitive and fast flowing but really enjoyed it". The Chairperson for the NGRA Clark Campbell added "The NGRA has gone from strength to strength each year and after last years success with our footy festival which is being run again this year. The local training nights & courses we run, one of our members making it onto the Assistant Referees National list for the Welsh Premier League, and now our first female official the future is looking bright". Ffion who joins only a small list of female officials in Wales, with Wales only just this year finally having the countries first female FIFA Referee in Charlotte Carpenter from Aberdare Referees Society the potential to progress is very much real. Rob Jarret the Secretary for the North Gwent Sunday League was present at the game and said " Its fantastic to see & the league is fully behind the future developments of young officials & giving them opportunities to officiate in our league. We fully support the NGRA in all its good work and hope it may continue". So as a new path in football truly opens up for Ffion the next referees course is just about to begin. So if you think you could be the next referee the North Gwent Referees Association wants to hear from you. |

Tai Calon HOusing & Green Deal ASSESSMENTS LTD Support NGRA Footy Festival 2014
The Football World Cup will be taking place in Brazil next year … and a little bit closer to home the footballing stars of tomorrow will have their own chance to shine as well.
Thanks to Tai Calon Community Housing Association for giving the green light on a £3,000.00 application to help place this footy festival on in June 2014. This was only to be greatly matched by local business owner Ceri Pearce of Green Deal Assessments Wales LTD who has stumped up £200.00 to pay for the programs to be printed on the day.
This means the North Gwent Referees Association will now be holding its 1st ever a football festival during the World Cup in June. All the games will be played at Ebbw Vale Sports Centre on Saturday, 21 June 2014, with separate categories for under 8,9,10,11,12,13,14 and 15 years of age.
Chloe Williams from Tai Calon said: “We are absolutely delighted to be supporting the festival. Football is a great way for young people to keep fit and to have fun at the same time.”
Gavin Townsend of the North Gwent Referees Association added: “Each child or young person taking part will have the chance to play a minimum of 120 minutes of football. The festival will be on a similar running order as the World Cup group stages.”
The festival will also be showing support to "Show Racism the Red Card" & palliative care in the valleys by teaming up with the Hospice of the Valleys. The association hopes it will become an annual event.
Tai Calon, Blaenau Gwent’s largest social housing landlord, is supporting the Football Festival with £3,000 from its Community Chest which can give grants to local projects.
“We are happy to support local projects and the football festival is one of those events which has won the support of tenants,” says Chloe.
Gavin added: “It will be a great fun day out with lots to do even if your not taking part on the pitch. We hope that at the end of it we will have persuaded a few more youngsters to take up refereeing. I have been a football fanatic all my life and took up refereeing at the age of 26 I have thoroughly enjoyed it and would encourage any youngster interested in the game to have a go as, it can be just as rewarding as playing and in my case more rewarding.”
Teams interested in playing in the Football Festival can contact Gavin Townsend by emailing [email protected] or the North Gwent Referees Associations Secretary Chris Postians by emailing [email protected].
